Give and Teach Founders
Rev. Mike and Rev. Dr. Carol Claypool
In the summer of 2010, while visiting Guatemala, the Lord woke Carol up in the middle of the night and spoke three words, "Rescue My Children." Not fully understanding that, seeking the Lord's direction over the next two years, the Claypool's felt the Lord was leading them to start a ministry in Guatemala. That was the beginning of Give and Teach.
In 2012, they decided to move to Guatemala. Carol found a job teaching in Guatemala and Mike traveled back and forth to the states to continue his employment as a Regional Pastor with Carolina Ministries. This allowed them to be self-supporting.
They began making connections in villages, started a feeding program and hosted short term mission groups. The ministry began to grow.
In 2014, after having lived in Guatemala full-time for two years, they returned to their jobs in South Carolina, but they continued the ministry. Carol came with the groups during summer vacation and Mike was able to come during the summers and with groups other times of the year.
The ministry continued to grow and expand. Each year saw more groups and more ministry. Groups built houses, hen houses, vented wood burning stoves, held medical clinics and shared the Gospel through Vacation Bible School. Professional Development for teachers opened doors for district wide teachers conferences with hundreds of teachers, as well as the opportunity to partner with local schools.
In 2018, Give and Teach was able to purchase property. By 2022, construction on the first buildings (a team house and a kitchen/dining hall) were completed. In 2023, a 700 foot deep well was drilled that now provides clean water to over 50 local families.
In 2025, construction on a nine classroom school was completed, allowing school to start during the beginning of the 2026 school year.
The Claypool's continue to serve as the Directors of Give and Teach. Having retired from their employment, they continue to serve more than half time as self-supporting missionaries.
